El Escoces Volante, Dos Dedos de Frente, 2018Grown on the single estate of ‘Finca del Val’ situated at 950 metres from twos parcel of Syrah situated on ‘cantos’ or pudding stones.

Grapes were hand picked into 20kg cases in the early hours in early October from the single estate of ‘Finca del Val’ situated at 950 metres from two parcel of Syrah situated on ‘cantos’ or pudding stones. Grapes were stored at 0 degrees for 48 hours in a cool room before gentle crushing and cold soak for a further 10 days. The must was then warmed and fermentation commenced with punch downs and pigeage. Half way through fermentation of the Syrah, Viognier skins were added to aid colour stability and to add glycerol, perfume and complexity to the wine. A further maceration of 3 weeks followed after alcoholic fermentation and then the wine was aged in oak.

Unevolved and intense with light purple rim. Pronounced cassis and cigar box nose with lifted floral perfume and violets. Full and unctuous on the palate with intense black fruit characters, well integrated oak and a long glyceric finish.

Cal Batllet, 5 Partides Vi de Vila Gratallops, 2014100% Carignan wine from vineyards up to 100 years old. Planted on steep slopes in 5 different Gratallops village areas: Camp d’en Piquer, Coma, Mas d’en Pallarès, Capella and Vinyals.
A spontaneous fermentation in open top 225 litre barrels as well as a flexitank egg, with pigiage twice per day at a maximum temperature of 26ºC, soft extraction, long maceration and minimal intervention with total respect for the fruit.

This terroir-driven wine faithfully represents the soils of Gratallops, giving a wine that is mineral-based, complex, ripe, elegant and soft with a long finish. A superb terroir drivenwine, with volume but with excellent fruit balance.

Marc is part of the new generation of winemakers in Priorat who are reclaiming the region for their own. Focusing on a style that puts the local terroir as its heart and looking to create wines of elegance and refinement, light years away from what made Priorat the darling of the American critics. An organic approach in the vineyard and use of wild yeast and barrel fermentation all come together to create wines expressive of the individual sites they come from. The 90 year old bush vines planted in steep hillsides on slate soil all create personalities of their own, none more so than the nearly extinct Escanyavella grape which produces a wine full of sublime texture and fruit.
