Chateau de Plaisance, L'Anjou Blanc, 2019
Chateau de Plaisance, L'Anjou Blanc, 2019This is from a variety of parcels on the ‘Butte de Chaume’, predominantly from younger (10-12-year-old) vines and predominantly from schist soils. The depth and luxurious texture from these vines is absolutely astonishing and seems all the more remarkable when you know that the wine is fermented and aged only in stainless steel. Harvesting is in small boxes and the grapes are cooled before a long, slow (4.5hrs) pressing in the cool room. Wild yeast ferment, partial Malo.
Textural and precise with wonderfully balanced fruit and acidity.

Chateau de Plaisance, Ronceray, 2019
Chateau de Plaisance, Ronceray, 2019This is again Anjou Blanc but this time from a variety of old-vine plots (35-50-year-old) around the winery. The wine follows a similar winemaking path to the Anjou Blanc above but is partially aged in barrel for 12 months. Significantly older vines and a barrel influence immediately suggest more richness but that’s not the over-riding impression in the glass! Ronceray is more concentrated and it’s way ‘tighter’, leaner in its initial feel and literally shimmering with tension. It’s an exciting and quite delicious drink right now but there’s surely an incredible story to unfold here over the next few years as well. Beautiful, serious wine.
The oak influence adds subtle power to accompany the bright citrus fruits and razor sharp acidity.

Paul Prieur et Fils, Sancerre, 2019
Paul Prieur et Fils, Sancerre, 2019Pieuchaud is a flinty-soiled lieu dit in the commune of Thauvenay in the south-east of the appellation. Luc decided to isolate this vineyard after noting it always produced fruit with great maturity whilst maintaining high acidity - the secret to single vineyard wines in his opinion. In a warm vintage like 2018, this stood out for its nerve, vim, flinty precision, and raw charge.

Chateau de Plaisance, Savennieres, 2019
Chateau de Plaisance, Savennieres, 2019From plots of quite old (35-50 years) vines in Meuriers and Gabillards where Aeolian sand overlays the schist base. Might as well get the bad bit out of the way… we don’t have anything like enough considering the sheer brilliance of this wine. We’re big Savennières enthusiasts and this feels to us very much like it has the potential to be up there with the greatest. We say feels like because it’s a baby… a pretty explosive baby mind… and there’s just so much in there shouting for your attention that it’s hard to see quite how special the whole will become as it settles and starts to come together.
It's like an vinous assassin this wine, it creeps up on you... then BAM... waves of fruit, texture and acidity and one of the longest and best finishes I can ever remember.

Paul Prieur et Fils, Mont Damnes Sancerre Blanc, 2019
Paul Prieur et Fils, Mont Damnes Sancerre Blanc, 2019Very fresh and delicate with notes of white fruit, elderflower and lime oil.
