Maison Chanzy, Mercurey Les Caraby, 2019
Maison Chanzy, Mercurey Les Caraby, 2019Extending to the south from Rully, the Mercurey vineyard is located on marl Limestone soils from geological formations of the Upper and Middle Jurassic, with a dominant of the latter, which appeal to the Pinot Noir grape variety.

This surname is common in western France. The first part of this word: “Cara” derives from the name caras/charas or “heap of stones”. The earth here, in fact, is stony and, at the top, a large meurger, or pile of stones that were removed and deposited at the edge of the plot, is still visible.

Domaine Anne et Herve Sigaut, Chambolle Musigny, 2013Jancis Robinson
"Smoky, meaty notes with lots of iodine and umami -- remarkably different to their Noirots cuvée. A great lesson in terroir, this! Assuming the winemaking is the same these are really polar opposites—loads of outspoken, esoteric flavour on display here. 17.5/20 points. Drink 2015-2028. "

Domaine David Duband, Chambolle-Musigny, 2019
Domaine David Duband, Chambolle-Musigny, 2019This wine has all that you may expect from a village wine in Chambolle. It is sleek, focused, feminine and just stern enough. The wine shows soft, beautiful red fruits and flowers with sweet wild herbs, forest floor, wet stone and a drop of green citrus. The structure has medium tannin with great acidity and texture. It is a darling of a Chambolle. Sadly, there is not much to go around.

Domaine de Courcel, 1er Cru Les Rugiens Pommard, 2017
Domaine de Courcel, 1er Cru Les Rugiens Pommard, 2017"This is aromatically quite similar to the Fremiers if ever-so-slightly fresher and also flashes a background note of oak influence. The dense, powerful and super-rich mineral-driven big-bodied flavors possess first-rate levels of dry extract while delivering fine length on the mocha-inflected, bitter cherry pit and noticeably warm finish. This is certainly impressive in its fashion but it’s somewhat particular in the context of the vintage." 91 Burghound
